Echolot
On your Mac

Shortcuts

Run saved requests and folders from the Shortcuts app, Siri and automations, and use the outcome in the next action.

Echolot adds two actions to the Shortcuts app: Run Request and Run Folder. They send saved requests with their checks, as the Runner does, and hand the outcome to the next action. Use them to check an API every morning, from a keyboard shortcut, or by asking Siri. Echolot doesn't come to the front while they run.

The actions

Find them in the Shortcuts app by searching for Echolot, under Requests.

Run Request

Sends one saved request of a workspace with its checks, and returns the outcome. In the editor it reads Run Request in Workspace.

ParameterWhat to choose
WorkspaceA workspace open in Echolot, or one of your recent workspaces.
RequestA saved request of that workspace. Each shows its method and path.
EnvironmentOptional. The environment's name as the workspace shows it, or its slug. When empty, the environment the workspace uses in its window, or used last.

Run Folder

Runs every request of a folder, in order with their checks, and returns the outcome. In the editor it reads Run Folder in Workspace.

ParameterWhat to choose
WorkspaceA workspace open in Echolot, or one of your recent workspaces.
FolderA folder of that workspace, or Whole workspace (name) for every request.
EnvironmentOptional, as for Run Request.

Requests run with their scripts and checks, and their responses go into the workspace's history, as from the workspace's window. The workspace doesn't need to be open.

Mac App Store edition

The actions work the same in the App Store edition. A workspace that isn't open is reached through the access you gave Echolot when you opened it.

Compare the editions

The outcome

Both actions return a Run Outcome for the next action, and show its summary when the shortcut finishes.

PropertyWhat it holds
PassedWhether every request ran without an error and every check passed (skipped checks don't count against it).
RequestsHow many requests ran.
Failed RequestsHow many failed.
StatusThe status code, for a single request.
Duration (ms)The time in milliseconds, for a single request.
SummaryOne line, such as GET List products: 200 in 182 ms, 3 of 3 checks passed for one request, or 2 of 9 requests failed for a folder.
FailuresOne line for each failed request: its name and the error or the checks that failed.

Protected environments

When the environment is protected, Shortcuts asks before anything is sent, with the environment and what would be sent. Declining ends the action with nothing sent.

Siri

Echolot's actions are ready for Siri without setting up a shortcut: say "Run a request in Echolot" or "Send a request with Echolot" for Run Request, and "Run a folder in Echolot" or "Run the requests of a folder in Echolot" for Run Folder.

Example: check the shop every morning

With the Alpenglow example workspace, which works against the demo API:

In the Shortcuts app, make a new shortcut and add Run Folder. Choose the Alpenglow workspace and the Catalog folder.

Add If, with the Run Outcome's Passed as the input and is false as the condition.

Inside the If, add Show Notification with the outcome's Summary, or Failures for every failed request.

In Automation, make a personal automation that runs the shortcut every morning.
