# Quick Send (/docs/mac/quick-send)

Quick Send sends one of your saved requests from wherever you are. Press its shortcut in any app, type a few letters
of the request's name, press <kbd>↩</kbd>, and the status, time and size come back in a small panel. The app you
were in stays in front.

## Turn it on [#turn-it-on]

Quick Send is off until you turn it on.

1. Open **Settings › General**.
2. Under **Quick Send**, turn on **Show Quick Send in the menu bar**.

A paper plane appears in the menu bar, and the shortcut starts working in every app.

### Change the shortcut [#change-the-shortcut]

The shortcut is <kbd>⌃</kbd><kbd>⌥</kbd><kbd>Space</kbd> unless you choose another. To change it, click the shortcut
next to **Shortcut** and press the new keys. <kbd>Esc</kbd> keeps the old one, and **Reset** goes back to
<kbd>⌃</kbd><kbd>⌥</kbd><kbd>Space</kbd>.

A shortcut that works in every app needs <kbd>⌘</kbd>, <kbd>⌃</kbd> or <kbd>⌥</kbd>, or a function key, so typing
never sets it off. While it is registered, no other app gets those keys. If another app already holds them, Settings
says the shortcut could not be registered; choose another.

<Callout title="Input sources">
  macOS can use <kbd>⌃</kbd><kbd>⌥</kbd><kbd>Space</kbd> to switch to the next input source when that is turned on
  in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts. If you use it, choose another shortcut for Quick Send.
</Callout>

## Send a request [#send-a-request]

1. Press the shortcut, or click the paper plane in the menu bar.
2. Type in **Send a saved request…** to narrow the list. Each row shows the request's method, name, and its
   workspace and folder.
3. Use <kbd>↑</kbd> and <kbd>↓</kbd> to pick one, and press <kbd>↩</kbd>, or click it.

The foot of the panel shows the outcome: the status code, the reason (or the request's name), the time and the size,
or why the send failed. **Open in Echolot** brings the request up in its workspace window, opening the workspace if it
isn't open.

The panel closes with <kbd>Esc</kbd> or when you click elsewhere.

## Which requests it offers [#which-requests-it-offers]

The panel lists every saved request of the workspaces open in Echolot first, then of your recent workspaces (the
last ten you opened), in the order of each workspace's sidebar. A workspace doesn't need to be open to send its
requests.

A request sent from Quick Send goes out as it would from its window:

- With the environment the workspace uses in its window, or the one it used last.
- With its scripts and checks.
- Into the request's [history](/docs/workspaces/history), so the response is there when you open the request.

<Edition only="appstore">
  Quick Send works the same in the App Store edition. A workspace that isn't open is reached through the access you
  gave Echolot when you opened it from **File › Open Workspace…**.
</Edition>

## Protected environments [#protected-environments]

When the request's environment is [protected](/docs/workspaces/protected-environments), the panel asks first:
**Send to *Environment*?**, with the method and address it would send to, secrets masked. **Cancel** is the default
button, so <kbd>↩</kbd> doesn't send; click **Send** (or **Connect** for a WebSocket, Socket.IO or MQTT request) to
go on. If you chose not to be asked again for that environment in the workspace's open window, Quick Send doesn't
ask either.
